And I wonder what in the world the man would be like if he walked on the earth today. Would I have the know all to obey such a man, an appearance of a mere peer, yet a force of undeniable strength and beauty? Would I be able to take the ridicule? Would he just tell me of his position -- or would an angel enlighten me? Would I have friends with me on our journey to tell the world that Jesus is here?Would I be able to follow his teachings? Would I knock on doors, would I preach the word? Is that what he would want me to do?
All of these questions lead me to look at the world we live in today. A world full of sadness, sorrow, and fear. It's not that our world today is much different than the world then -- there are still people trying to take advantage of people. There are still sick and injured people. There are still people looking for a miracle -- denouncing every other belief but their own. There is death.
What I've come to understand is that if I want to live a life including Christ, I must live a life as Jesus did. Sounds simple right? Perhaps it is. How does that little saying go, "WWJD?" (what would Jesus do?)
If Jesus was here he would certainly not let the people of New Orleans go without his help. He would be there volunteering, and calming the people's fears. He would be picking up the houses and with his bare hands helping to mend the homes, the buildings, the levees. He would restructure and reinforce.
Jesus would certainly feed the homeless. He'd be volunteering at the homeless shelters and aiding the drug infested population. He wouldn't care about diseases -- AIDS would not scare him. Prostitution and addiction would be his devotion -- a goal to heal, a purpose to accept, an ultimate ending of forgiveness.
He wouldn't declare a war on those that don't believe in him. He would also not simply sit idly by and let people use his name in vain and as an excuse to kill. Our world has become so damn PC that we can't stand up for what we really feel without the fear of hurting someone's feelings or offending somebody. Jesus wouldn't care about political correctness -- he'd be Himself and set an example that the masses would take notice of.
Jesus would be the first one out there helping the poor -- providing a place for them to go...food for them to eat. He would set up welfare and social programs to for them allowing them a way out of the hole they are in.
Would Jesus call for the damnation of homosexuals? I think not...He would be understanding and kind. He would probably feel that just like all of us they're made in the image of God and are loved by God and therefore, he'd love them too. And just like with the lepers, he'd probably share an affinity with homosexuals.
Would Jesus try to pass more laws helping the rich and hurting the poor....Would He turn his back on the uninsured? The unemployed? The sick? Absolutely not. They would be the first people to receive His grace.
So I do believe that Jesus is good and if he were walking beside us physically vs. figuratively, he would do good in this world. I find it interesting that religious groups use Jesus' name to do harmful things...That Republicans use his name to further their agendas...It's seems to me that Jesus is a democrat, ladies and gentleman, a democrat in the truest form.
The clouds have lifted and the sun is brightly shining. My head is clearing as well, and my eyes are beginning to see the beauty of the light. Promise. Hope. Happiness.
