Your day will probably start out with a surprise, or maybe some kind of upheaval that goes against the routines you're used to. You have two things to avoid today. The first is letting things go so far that what was once an easy to solve problem now requires outside expert help. The second is being so concerned about appearances that what is underneath the surface cannot sustain itself. The good news is that the planets are mostly supportive today, especially regarding your career. Your intuitional approach to things is liable to be praised by others today.Well, yesterday while running my hand thru my hair (you just envisioned a Farah Fawcett look alike and I thank you for it,) something POPPED in my incision. OUCH! I thought for sure popped the main stitch. I tried to go on with my day when I noticed my shirt was damp. Sure enough, my back was bleeding, or oozing -- or perhaps a concoction of the two. Damnit. Justin looked at it and it didn't look so bad. As directed, he took off the soaked steristrips, cleaned the area and re bandaged me up. First thing this morning -- I was on the phone with McDreamy. He said, "if you get in here quick I can see you quick. If not, I'll fit you where I can but today is a busy day so be forewarned." I sped there. He looked at it. Apparently, I have an abscess just under the incision. It appears, he speculated, that and internal stitch cut loose allowing the infected puss to seep out. "A good thing that it's draining, actually." And, he complimented Justin's work. The top stitch is still in tact, however, which is good, but he pushed and cleaned up the gobs of infection that came from my back. "This part will stay open for now to clear the infection." I've been put on Bactrim twice a day for 10 days.He said it would probably keep draining for a few days until the antibiotics kick in. DAMNIT.
Well, I then had to go to Occupational Health -- cause apparently one doctor's note to be on light duty is not sufficient. 3 hours later -- seriously -- I emerged with a second note, agreeing with the first assessment. This doctor, however, aware of my job and direct patient contact I have (often with immunosuppressed and/or contact precaution patients) ordered strictly that I have NO patient contact for fear that the wound has MRSA in it. Yep, that's what she said...and that's why she said McDreamy chose Bactrim. "It's the drug of choice in early MRSA cases."
BITE ME!
So I had to call my floor, and staffing, and HR, and some other outside affiliate that deals with light duty. It's been a nightmare....I go back to McDreamy on Tuesday to remove the stitches and assess the wound. Hopefully by then they will have the pathology report declaring me both cancer and MRSA free. And then I can go thru the continuous internal bullshit to try and get back to work at full capacity...just in time for school to start.
Yes! I love my life! *sigh*
But I will say that I did laugh more than anything else today. I got to have lunch with a fantastic friend from nursing school. We are two peas in a pod and it's so fun to have someone to laugh with. Then I came home, picked up the house, ran to the store and am making AUTUMN SOUP. The puppy is on my lap. My bills are paid. And, I am awaiting my Love to come walking thru those doors for a quiet evening in...American Idol starts tonight!!! Yippee!!!
